BUR flight data recorder is a part of monitoring and intended for registering and storing of parametric flight information. Up till now, aircrafts worldwide have been using recorders with data recording onto photofilm, wire or magnetic tape.
According to Annex 6 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation, Part 3 «International Operations. Helicopters», the use of magnetic tape FDRs should be laid off by 1st January 2016. Violation of these requirements can cause grounding of the aircraft. To meet the requirements, bulletins No. AMT3088-БУ-Г and AMT3088-БУ-АБ have been developed for the helicopter types Mi-8AMT and Mi-171 for replacement of BUR-1-2 system with BUR-1-2 series 2 system with solid-state recorder ZBN-1-3 series 3 with ability of installation of optional solid-state recorder TBN-K-4 series 2.
Flight data recorder BUR-1-2 series 2 was developed and produced by NPO Pribor JSC. In accordance wih the specification and description presented by the manufacturer, the product comprises:
- flight data acquisition unit BSPI-4-2 ser.2;
- control panel PU-25-1;
- protected flight recorder ZBN-1-3 ser. 3;
- frame Ra-37K (not changed in case of replacement of flight data acquisition unit).
Solid-state flight data recorder TBN-K-4 series 2 is not comprised by BUR-1-2 series 2, by for expansion of information abilities, it can be connected to the unit BSPI-4-2 ser.2, in such case the recorder is added to the scope of the facility. For affixment of system to a particular aircraft, relevant coded devices UKO-1 (identification connector) are installed on BSPI-4-2 ser.2.
Flight data recorder BUR-1-2 series 2 provides acquisition and processing of data from onboard systems and sensors.
Ground processing of recorded information is performed on ground complexes like PS-90, Topaz-M and similar ones fitted with reception port under standards of PC MCIA-II.

Up to date, optional solid-state recorder TBN-K-4 series 2 provides recording of flight information to easily removable memory card РС Card ATA PCMCIA Type II Flash Disk and to mass storage device СН-USB-2 ИСУЯ.467379.001.
TBN-K-4 series 2 with memory card (with mass storage device) provide:
- reception from onboard equipment of parametric information to two independent inputs in the form of bipolar zero-address serial code with setting to zero at a rate via each input 768, 1536, 3072 bit/s;
- saving received information in the form of files to memory card having interface PCMCIA-II, with memory volume 20 to 185 MB;
- saving received information in form of files to mass storage device СН-USB-2 .
Saving of information from each input to memory card (mass storage device) is done in form of file. During receipt of information from two inputs, two files of equal length are saved. Writing of information to every file is performed continuously, with erasing of previously written information.
Time of record storage for each memory card (mass storage device) of 128 MB (2 GB) is 92 (4600) hours in case of registration of one stream of information and 46 (2300) hours in case of registration of two streams at data receipt speed 3072 bit/s.
In case of registration of information with saving to a memory card (mass storage device) of another capacity, time of record storage is modified proportionally.
Time of data storage in a memory card (mass storage device) removed from the unit is not limited.
