To increase the range and duration of flight, the Mi-8AMT helicopters can be outfitted with auxiliary external fuel tanks. These tanks are installed at window level on both sides of the helicopter. The 171-6150-00-01 and 171-6150-00-02 auxiliary external fuel tanks are installed on the Mi-8AMT helicopters in accordance with Bulletin No. АМТ3097БУ-Г, the operational documentation is updated in accordance with Bulletin No. АМТ3184-БЭ-Г.
The auxiliary external fuel tanks are located on both sides of the helicopter above the main fuel tanks, which provides reliable and easy gravity fuel feed. The advantage of this installation configuration, in addition to extended flight range and duration, is the efficient use of the whole cargo area to transport passengers, cargoes and to install auxiliary internal fuel tanks.
The advantages of installing auxiliary external fuel tanks 171-6150-00-01 and 171-6150-00-02 are shown in Table No. 1.
Table No. 1
Parameters | Standard fuel tanks (SFT) | Auxiliary external fuel tanks (AEFT) |
---|---|---|
SFT capacity | 2615 l/2027 kg | 1830 l/1418 kg |
SFT+AEFT capacities | 4445 l/3445 kg | 4445 l/3445 kg |
Flight range with maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) | 610 km | 1065 km |
Flight duration with MTOW | 3,5 h | 5,8 h |
The main operations of installing auxiliary external fuel tanks 171-6150-00-01 and 171-6150-00-02 on the Mi-8AMT helicopters:
- SFT modification;
- Right instrument panel modification;
- Electrical installation work on wiring modification and modification of the distribution box for APU startup;
- Replacement of the mounting brackets of the strut supports;
- Installation of struts and cradles for mounting the tanks;
- Installation of auxiliary fuel-supply lines;
- Installation of AEFT.
Installation operations on the Mi-8AMT helicopters are performed in accordance with Bulletin No. АМТ3097БУ-Г «Fuel System - Installation of Auxiliary External Fuel Tanks 171-6150-00-01 and 171-6150-00-02». The operating documents are updated in accordance with Bulletin No. АМТ3184-БЭ-Г – «Maintenance Manual and Maintenance Program. Implementation of Supplement 171.0000.00.ЭД.Д-5012».
